Our Approach
Our physicians are specialized pediatricians who provide consultations for children referred to us to assess and treat specific health issues. We focus on medical, behavioral, and developmental disorders in children aged 0 to 17 within Red Deer and the Central Zone.
A referral from a qualified healthcare practitioner with a valid PRACID is required to be seen by our team.
Please note that we do not offer primary care services for healthy children. We strongly recommend that all our patients have a primary care provider for their general healthcare needs.
For children with complex medical conditions, our pediatricians often take a collaborative care approach. This may involve scheduling alternating medical appointments with their primary care provider.

Information needed for a referral
Please fax referral and any supporting documents to:

Please include the following information in the referral:

Patient’s name, Alberta health care number, date of birth

Valid contact information, including phone numbers and address

Parent/guardian names
-
All relevant clinic notes, investigations and reports
-
Growth charts including actual height, weight and head circumference values
-
Your clinic’s contact information (phone, address and fax number).

Your valid PRACID
Our office will notify you by fax when the referral is received and once we have booked the appointment with the family.
How to refer to a specific pediatrician
If you want to send referral to a specific pediatrician, please address your referral letter to that pediatrician.
Referrals addressed to Pediatric Consultants Associated Central Alberta Inc. or without a designated pediatrician mentioned will be navigated by our Medical Office Assistants. Depending upon the pediatrician's booking process, the MOA will either send the referral for triage or will book with the next available pediatrician.

In cases where one pediatrician's wait time substantially exceeds others, the pediatrician may direct the MOA to transfer the referral to the next available pediatrician, or the family may be offered the choice of seeing a different pediatrician with a shorter wait time or be added to the cancellation list of the original pediatrician referred to.
Re-referrals & second opinions
There may be a need for a subsequent referral to see the pediatrician if the patient's previous chart has been closed. Re-referrals reasons may include, but are not confined to the following:

Patient has not been seen in follow up within the recommended timeframe, resulting in the closure of their chart, typically after 1 year.

The original reason for the referral has been resolved, but a new issue has arisen.

A referral for a second opinion, will be reviewed by the specified new pediatrician. After reviewing, our office may contact referring physician for additional information before second opinion referral is accepted.
Reports
After the patient's appointment, our pediatricians will complete a consult report and fax back to your office within several days, often the same day as the patient's appointment.
Please be advised that some pediatricians will also provide a copy of follow-up visit reports, too.
